Pearls of wisdom that I have learned over these past forty years, by Kat Challis.
1. Love unconditionally
2. Love often through your actions
3. Be at peace with yourself
4. Don’t go to bed angry
5. Respect each other
6. Confide in one another
7. Don’t keep secrets
8. Make opportunities to date each other
9. Tell the truth
10. Use honesty with a grain of wisdom
11. Understand that you will have differing opinions on matters
12. There are not any winners in a quarrel
13. People rarely ask for your opinion but are happy to share theirs with you
14. Happiness is a state of mind
15. Tell each other “I love you” always; it may be your last opportunity
16. Don’t allow a third party into your relationship
17. Complement one another
18. Don’t allow issues to fester
19. Don’t complain to others about your relationship
20. Praise your spouse to others
21. Be humorous
22. Share your burdens when it hurts too much to cry
23. Be proactive in your relationship
24. Don’t sit on the sidelines
25. Be a united front
26. Admit it when you’re wrong
27. Apologize even if it’s not your fault, thus acknowledging their feelings
28. Take pleasure in the small things
29. Don’t cheat yourself out of a lifetime love by being with someone else for a season
30. Forgive one another
31. Continue to grow and learn about each other
32. Embrace change
33. Leave pettiness outside
34. Keeping educating yourself
35. Make long-term plans
36. Make a bucket list then work on it now rather than later after retirement
37. Cherish one another
38. Take a moment to stop the merry-go-round and just be in the present
39. Recognize there aren’t any “do over’s” when you lose your temper
40. Make important decisions together
